A-One Feed Supplements Ltd was among the first companies in the UK to recognise the potential of enhancing soybeans for utilisation as a protein source.

Soybeans constitute approximately 50% of the global oilseed crop and are extensively utilised as a protein source in monogastric animals. However, raw soybeans contain various anti-nutritional factors that adversely impact animal performance. These factors, notably protease inhibitors and lectins, impede protein digestion. Protease inhibitors inhibit the action of trypsin, a crucial protein-digesting enzyme, while lectins disrupt protein absorption in the gastrointestinal tract by binding to intestinal membranes, reducing efficiency.

Fortunately, these anti-nutritional factors are susceptible to heat; however, achieving optimal heat treatment without compromising protein quality is paramount.

 A-One Feed Supplements employs a unique extrusion process in-house to produce ‘Sunlustre Full-Fat Soya,’ a protein source with low anti-nutritional factors and high protein quality and content.

This proprietary, in-house manufacturing process involves controlled steam cooking and wet extrusion, preserving protein quality while significantly reducing anti-nutritional factors. Wet heat enhances amino acid availability and maximizes nutrient accessibility by breaking down plant cell material, facilitating digestion.

Specifically, this wet extrusion process achieves:

  • Reduction of lectins, enhancing intestinal absorption
  • Lowering of trypsin inhibitor levels, promoting efficient digestion
  • Maximization of oil availability with minimal protein damage through cell rupture
