Ear Necrosis is caused by poor blood flow to the extremities, when the blood vessels are unable to supply enough blood and nutrients to cells. Without enough oxygen, the cells inevitably die and turn black.
Poor blood flow can be a result of clots causing blockages in blood vessels, or by constricted blood vessels (Richardson et al., 1984).
Biting or any damage to the ear has the potential to expose the ear to infection. However, ear biting may be influenced by the appearance of infection or necrotic lesions.
